Hello South Fulton,
Y’all know how I love to travel. And to kick off the summer every year, I meet my sorority sisters in different locations, sans husbands and kids, allowing for just sisterhood and relaxation. Last year we went to Puerto Rico. This year we journeyed to California wine country: Napa, Sonoma and Santa Rosa. We drank lots of wine and had lots of laughs. We visited the Brown Estate Tasting Room, owned by an African American family, and had an absolute ball. And as reflected in the words of Santa Rosa’s own cartoonist and creator of Charlie Brown and Snoopy, there’s no time like time spent nurturing friendships formed over 20 years.

The Surprising Effects of Sun on Dark Skin

The Surprising Effects of Sun on Dark Skin

For too long, Blacks have believed skin cancer is unlikely due to melanin. Brown skin alone does not totally protect you. Although the incidence of skin cancer is less in Blacks than Whites, the mortality is greater due to its usual late diagnosis. Sun exposure is the most common etiology in all three of the most common types of skin cancer. Other precipitating causes are scars, burns, lupus, heredity and radiation treatments.

For over 13 years Chiropractors Winston and Chantaye Carhee have been living, working and playing in the South Fulton Community (#SoFu).
Dr. Winston Carhee’s purpose is to help as many people as possible. He was raised in the South Fulton metro area, where the community has the highest rates of preventable diseases and injuries. Therefore, he made it his mission to help prevent these diseases and assist people recovering from injuries. This mission is personal for Dr. Carhee, who was involved in a motor vehicle collision in 1991 that took the life of two of his childhood friends and caused him serious injuries that took him two years to recover from. This experience changed Dr. Carhee’s life forever.

The gift of motherhood should never be taken for granted. It gets even sweeter when you find yourself blessed enough to watch your children grow up and become productive contributors to society. I have found that in all of my children, whether by birth, marriage or familial circumstances.

An amazing event it was, full of some of the most beautiful and powerful African American married couples in Metro Atlanta. They walked in ZuCot Art Gallery, setting the atmosphere on fire. The ambiance of the evening was amazing, and guests could definitely feel the love in the air. The spoken word artist, Kalecia Wright, set the tone of sweet love for the evening, accompanied by cellist Vanessa Fanning of the Orchestra Noir, playing “Georgia On My Mind.” The phenomenal vocalist Phillippia gave us an “experience” like no other as she blew us away with every soulful note; they call her the “Queen of Indie Soul” for a reason.

Morocco is a land of cities and villages, old and new, traditional and contemporary, where Mercedes and donkeys are side by side in the streets. You’ll see business districts with high rises ringed by shanty towns, ancient walled cities, painted blue cities and beautiful deserts, and medinas with back alleys to get lost in, public squares with snake charmers, musicians, magicians and con artists waiting to take your money. Morocco has it all!
