Music From the Heart
Born in Daytona Beach and raised in Atlanta, Justin Clay discovered his musical talents early on in church and school.
As a six-year-old, Justin started playing music in church with his father. Later, an elementary school teacher, Janice Love, asked him to write and compose the fifth grade promotion song. Justin composed his first original composition and performed it solo on the piano. A similar opportunity presented itself in high school when Justin composed and performed the Redan High School 1997 Class Song, “It’s Been a Long Time Coming.” It is safe to say that Justin’s passion and musical talent have always been quite noticeable.
After high school, Justin attended Morehouse College and graduated with honors in 2001 with a double major in Finance and Marketing. He then attended graduate school at the University of West Georgia, focusing his studies on disabilities. In 2011, Justin concluded his teaching career with the Fulton County School District and founded a fine arts school, Music from the Heart, in Fairburn, Georgia.
Seeing a need for a vibrant arts program in the community where he had taught elementary school, Justin founded his full-service music company at 7000 Rivertown Road. Since its inception, Music from the Heart Fine Arts has obtained licensing as a fine arts school and serves as the featured music program for several Fulton County arts and cultural centers. Serving over 500 students, the music company has also implemented studio “beats” classes in several metro Atlanta schools and has added a second studio at 1550 Senoia Road in Tyrone.
Music from the Heart also organizes and performs at exclusive events, scores theatrical plays and aids students in obtaining scholarships. The company also recently directed and adapted the music for the award-winning stage play, “Cindy the Musical,” written and directed by Emmy-nominated Stepp Stewart, with the African American Philharmonic Orchestra at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center.
The belief that “music develops the essence of the human heart and creates an experience that surpasses natural understanding,” sets the foundation for Justin’s Music from the Heart Fine Arts school and is a clear representation of his passion. From his humble beginnings of playing instruments in church, to founding a company making a significant impact on the community, Justin is certainly a standout individual whose altruism and enthusiasm for the world of music will not go unnoticed.
