Three True Confessions from A Trainer 2

#SoFu Resident Barre Expert Bares Her Soul

Hey you there—yes you! I’m going to tell you something that I’ve rarely admitted to anyone, but this stays between us, okay? I’m a personal trainer… I mean I train people for a living, which is probably no big secret if you didn’t skip the title of this article. The thing is, and I don’t believe I’m going to say this out loud so listen carefully: for years, I never really liked physical exercise! Yes, that’s right!

There, I said it and it feels GOOOD!!! Go ahead. Give it a try. Scream it to the heavens if you’ve had the same thought. It’s liberating, isn’t it? But there’s more, and this is the most important part: “Our fight is not against flesh and blood.”

I realized that in overcoming the limitations of my physical self I created a spark and renewed a light inside that moved me from dark places into fitness and health of the body, but more importantly, of the spirit and the mind. When I realized that I could share this sense of wholeness with anyone who needed it, the physical workout was no longer an issue for me—okay, not an issue 85 to 90% of the time, especially since we should probably be honest in our confessions.

While we’re at it, there something else I’d like to share. I never had a personal trainer before I became one. I guess that makes me a self-starter, or contrary, or let’s just go with unique. The point is that there’s no specific order in which the journey should begin. If you’ll allow your life to inform your exercise, you’re already at the starting line. Which brings me to my final confession. I know that your best life is in you.

Keep moving, bending, stretching, reaching, believing and achieving. You won’t recognize yourself or, more appropriately, you actually will. Maybe for the first time you’ll have the energy and light to see what you were meant to give to the world.
