Beat the Heat with these Summer Hot Spots

Enjoy the best of what South Fulton has to offer with this feature of great summer escapes.  Whether you choose to seek comfort in a cooler indoor climate, star-gaze at a luxury hotel, hydrate with fresh juices or take in art at a local gallery,  we’ve got you covered. Bring your family and friends along and make the most of the season!

There’s no other way to best capture summertime fun than a drive-in movie after dark. The all-new 4-Star hotel Solis at Two Porsche Drive in Hapeville is offering free movies to the public this summer on select dates.

A 25-foot screen transforms the Solis parking lot into an outdoor theater overlooking majestic views of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport runways.  Ideal for car buffs, aviation fans, or anyone that wants to take in a perfect scene on a breezy warm night. Patrons can order wonderfully prepared appetizers and refreshing summer cocktails from the menu offered by Apron, a full-service restaurant in the lobby of Solis.  Don’t miss the next screening on July 14 at 8:30 p.m. showing “Dream Machine” starring Corey Heim

The Delta Flight Museum is located minutes away from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and is the perfect hideaway from the outdoor summer heat.  It’s housed in a newly remodeled temperature controlled aircraft hanger, so there’s plenty of chilled air for everyone.

The Museum offers a unique interactive experience and is great for families, airplane enthusiasts, or anyone that wants to try something new. Visitors can climb on board a Boeing 747-400 and experience what a First Class flight to China would feel like. There are other aircrafts on site including a 767 purchased by employees named The Spirit of Delta and a completely restored 1940 Douglas DC -3. Be sure to check out the Boeing 737 flight simulator, which happens to be the only one in the US open to the public. On your way out stop by the museum’s gift shop for a one-of-a-kind souvenir!

Summer is a great time to practice your downward dog or tree pose at Paperplane Yoga Studio. Located on Harvard Avenue next to the colorful Yo-yo Ferro mural, a step in the door and you won’t believe you’re still in College Park. A vintage chandelier, lofty ceiling, flowing sheers, and white brick walls adorned with bold art magically transports you to a studio in Venice Beach.

There’s no other place like it. The owner, Toni Young, curates an exhibit of engaging art pieces from local artists. The art is only on display for a few months until a new collection arrives and is celebrated with an opening reception. With every exhibit comes a fresh and exciting experience that energizes your yoga practice. Paperplane Yoga studio sizzles this summer with the newest class, Yoga & Salsa. Restorative Yoga, group classes, family sessions, and private classes are offered daily, morning and night.

Recharge, unplug, and head out to camp! Chattahoochee Bend is one of the largest State Parks in Georgia and sits on the scenic Chattahoochee River. This isn’t your typical rustic campgrounds your parents sent you during the summer either.  Located just 40 miles from South Fulton, it’s most known for paddling, camping, and fishing.

New this year are fully furnished two bedrooms two bath cabins, fully electric and can sleep up to 8 people. Each kitchen comes equipped with everything you need to prepare meals sans a campfire, though there is one for roasting marshmallows outside.  There’s also a brand new playground located steps from the cabins. One of the three new cabins are fully accessible and pet-friendly.

At Chattahoochee Bend State Park, kids will love the new Parks After Dark family program and Junior Ranger programs.  Cabins can be reserved online, and the park is open year-round.
